Oral Microbiota Comparison between Healthy volunteers, Periodontitis patients and Oral cancer patients

Abstract
The presence of distinct bacterial species is found to bedependent on age, diet, and disease. We compared thedetection rate of several oral bacterial strains in a cohort of36 subjects including healthy volunteers, periodontalpatients, and oral cancer patients. Gargling samples wereobtained from these subjects from which DNA was thenextracted. Specific primers for 29 bacterial species were usedfor PCR detection. In the oral cancer patients, Capnocytophagaochracea, Gemella morbillorum, and Streptococcussalivarius were detected more frequently compared with thehealthy volunteers and periodontitis patients. Fusobacteriumnucleatum/ polymorphym and Prevotella nigrescens weresignificantly less prevalent in oral cancer patients than theother groups. In periodontitis patients, Porphyromonasgingivalis and Treponema denticola were more frequentlyfound compared with the healthy volunteers. In the healthyvolunteer group, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius was morefrequently found than the other groups. The detection rate ofseveral oral bacterial species was thus found to differbetween healthy volunteers, periodontitis patients and oralcancer patients.
